Van Drew Takes Aim at Washington Dysfunction for Putting Millions of Americans’ with Pre-Existing Conditions Health at Risk
(Northfield) – State Senator Jeff Van Drew, a practicing dentist, today took issue with the White House and Department of Justice for abandoning their legal responsibility to defend key provisions of the Affordable Care Act. The legal maneuvers would put more than 130 million non-elderly Americans with pre-existing conditions health at risk and cause dramatic financial harm for families.
State Senator Jeff Van Drew issued the following statement:
“Anyone can have a pre-existing condition, and most Americans fall into this category with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, asthma, behavioral health disorders, heart and lung conditions, and joint disorders. Washington has a moral imperative to be humane and protect the American people. I’m profoundly disappointed that the Department of Justice is failing their legal and moral obligation to defend our nation’s law and healthcare coverage for more than 130 million Americas with pre-existing conditions. This decision is wrong and misguided. The havoc this would cause for families would be catastrophic, as many families would be financially devastated being hammered with massive premiums and medical debt, which would even result in bankruptcy. As Congressman, I will fight tirelessly to guarantee that Americans with pre-existing conditions continue to have the healthcare they need and deserve. This latest legal scheme is an example of the dysfunction in Washington that is tone deaf to the challenges American families are facing.”
Jeff Van Drew is a practicing dentist from Dennis Township, and is the State Senator for New Jersey’s 1st Legislative District. Van Drew is running for congress in New Jersey’s 2nd Congressional District, which includes all or parts of New Jersey’s eight southernmost counties.
