Vitale Promotes Free HIV Testing in New Jersey
Trenton – In recognition of National HIV Testing Day on June 27th, organizations around the state will be holding more than 20 community events around the state featuring free, confidential HIV testing and education. To promote awareness, the Chair of the Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee Senator Joseph Vitale issued the following statement:
“National HIV Testing Day was established in 1995 and since then, a lot has changed. We have made major improvements from treatments to the public perception of the illness, but the first step has always remained the same – taking the time to get tested and know your status. National figures tell us that 1.1 million people in the US are living with HIV, and 1 in 7 do not know their status as HIV positive. Let today serve as a reminder to all that HIV is still a threat to the health and wellbeing of our friends, family, and neighbors. The first step is that we should all know our status. From there we can be connected with the help, care, and treatment we may need.”
