WATCH: Trump Nom Wants to Serve on Politically Independent Federal Reserve...WHILE KEEPING JOB AT WHITE HOUSE

WASHINGTON, D.C.  Yesterday during a committee hearing, Senator Kim grilled President Trump’s nominee, Stephen Miran, to fill a vacancy on the Federal Reserve board who said he was planning to keep his job as President Trump’s Chief Economic Policy Advisor even when appointed to the seat on the Fed.

The Fed is designed to be independent so it can look out for Americans' financial stability and set interest rates without political interference from the White House or Congress.

Key quotes from Senator Kim’s full interview:

“Why do you even want this job at the Fed for four months if you’re just, you know, hedging your bets and continuing to hold your position at the White House.”

“You have every right to say no, I’m going to resign.”

“You can determine your own career, you know that right?”

“You could very well be continuing to act in a way that is in the political interests of the President because you know he is going to be your boss again.”

The hearing was held in the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs just over a week after President Trump unlawfully attempted to fire a sitting member of the Federal Reserve Board. Senator Kim condemned this as, “reckless actions risk the financial security of our families and American businesses.”

Senator Kim serves as the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on National Security and International Trade and Finance on the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs. He is a member of the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation; the Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP); the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs; and the Special Committee on Aging. Before being elected to the U.S. Senate, Kim represented New Jersey’s Third Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives and was a career public servant working in national security and diplomacy at the White House, State Department, and Pentagon.
