Analilia Mejia Endorsed by Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU)
Glen Ridge, NJ — Analilia Mejia, Democratic nominee for New Jersey's 11th Congressional District, today announced the endorsement of the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU), alongside RWDSU Local 108 and Local 262, which represents 10,000 retail workers across New Jersey in retail, grocery, warehouse, and food processing industries. The RWDSU are affiliated with the United Food and Commercial Workers Union (UFCW).
"Analilia Mejia has dedicated her life to standing up for workers. RWDSU are proud to endorse her for Congress," said RWDSU President Stuart Appelbaum, RWDSU Local 108 President Charles Hall, and RWDSU Local 262 President Danny Righetti in a joint statement. "Analilia led the fight for $15 and won paid sick days for hundreds of thousands of workers across New Jersey. Our members need that kind of proven ally in Washington. We’re fired up and ready to send Analilia to Congress!"
“Workers in RWDSU do important work that keeps our communities going. They deserve a representative who will fight as hard for them and they work for all of us,” said Analilia Mejia. “When I get to Congress, I’m going to fight to pass the PRO Act, raise the minimum wage, and make sure every worker has the protections and dignity they deserve.”
Analilia Mejia spent a decade as a union organizer with 32BJ SEIU, UFCW, and UNITE HERE before leading New Jersey's successful campaigns for a $15 minimum wage and universal earned sick days.
Analilia Mejia's campaign has earned broad support from organized labor, including 32BJ SEIU, 1199 SEIU, the SEIU NJ State Council, CWA District 1, CWA Local 1037, AFSCME, the Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters, the National Education Association, the New Jersey Education Association, the Amalgamated Transit Union, National Nurses United, and Rutgers AAUP-AFT and the Rutgers Adjunct Faculty Union.
