Senator Kristin M. Corrado (R-Bergen, Essex, Passaic) released the following statement on the latest developments of the investigation into Lieutenant Governor and Secretary of State Dale Caldwell:

“On July 21, 2026, Governor Sherrill revealed that an MVC error had registered 6,600 noncitizens to vote. Standing beside her was Lieutenant Governor and Secretary of State Dale Caldwell, New Jersey’s top election official.

“What the public wasn’t told was that the Sherrill Administration had already launched an investigation into Caldwell. We now know that investigation substantiated harassment and ethics violations.

“I am calling for Lieutenant Governor Caldwell’s resignation and am appalled that he was permitted to continue overseeing our elections at such a critical time. Even more troubling, he exercised the powers of Acting Governor 18 times while the investigation was underway.

“Equally concerning, the public only learned about this investigation after it was reported by the press in September, months after the complaint was received and outside counsel was retained.

“Meanwhile, more than two months after the MVC revelation, New Jersey voters are still waiting for a full accounting of how thousands of people who indicated they were not citizens were registered to vote.

“New Jersey residents deserve leadership, transparency, and answers from their government. So far, we have gotten none. Our state deserves better.”
