Today, Gov.-elect Mikie Sherrill announced that she will nominate Rosalie Johnson to be the Chief Administrator of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC). Johnson has over two decades of organizational experience, most recently with the Institute for Responsive Government, where she provides guidance and support for state motor vehicle agencies across the country.

Previously as Senior Deputy Director of the Colorado Department of Motor Vehicles, Johnson led the state to a 97% REAL ID compliance rate, reduced the average wait time from 45 minutes to 15 minutes, and rolled out a secure mobile driver’s license initiative.  Johnson brings a breath of experience that will be crucial in helping the Sherrill-Caldwell Administration reduce delays at the MVC, improve customer service, and keep New Jersey’s roadways safe.

“I promised a different kind of leadership in Trenton, focused on results, and I am so excited to welcome Rosalie Johnson to the Garden State to help save New Jerseyans time and money at the MVC. Right now, it’s just too hard for New Jerseyans to get what they need from the Motor Vehicle Commission, whether that’s a REAL ID appointment, a vehicle inspection, or a business license for an auto body shop. Rosalie brings a wide breath of experience in streamlining motor vehicle agency operations, improving roadway safety, and ID distribution that will help ensure New Jerseyans can get what they need from the MVC while keeping our roadways safe,” said Gov.-elect Mikie Sherrill.

“I am honored to join Gov.-elect Sherrill and her administration to lead the New Jersey’s Motor Vehicle Commission. I look forward to working together to take a different approach to making services like REAL ID more easily accessible for residents, reducing wait times, and improving road safety. Over the next few months, we will work to empower MVC employees and ensure that the MVC is delivering on the issues that impact working families the most,” said Rosalie Johnson.

Rosalie Johnson is an organizational leader with 20 years of senior-level experience, leading a wide variety of cross-functional teams in multi-unit operations, strategic planning and execution, problem solving, stakeholder engagement, and team management. With the Institute for Responsive Government, Rosalie provides state motor vehicle agencies with deep implementation guidance and support, based upon years of earned expertise. She previously worked for the Colorado Department of Motor Vehicles, where she served as their Senior Deputy Director. In this role, she led the implementation of Colorado’s best-in-class automatic voter registration system, its Mobile ID program, and partnerships with the Department of Corrections to issue IDs to returning individuals
