Governor Sherrill Highlights State Cybersecurity Resources Available to Local Governments
New Jersey's cybersecurity program gives municipalities advanced tools, 24/7 cyber defense, and ongoing support at no cost
TRENTON – Governor Mikie Sherrill today highlighted the resources available from the New Jersey Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Cell's (NJCCIC) cyber hub, which equips municipalities and local entities with real-time threat intelligence, risk assessments, incident response support, training and education, and enterprise-grade defense tools.
Through the NJCCIC, participants have access to tools and resources to detect and respond to cyber incidents in real time, including round-the-clock monitoring of networks and systems, as well as opportunities to collaborate and share information, strengthening New Jersey’s collective cyber defense.
"My job is to make sure New Jersey is prepared, protected, and educated on the threats we face," said Governor Mikie Sherrill. "New Jersey has cutting-edge cybersecurity tools and infrastructure, and every local government entity in this state has access to that advantage at no cost. I encourage every municipality not yet enrolled to sign up today, because a stronger New Jersey starts with every town having the resources it needs to stay safe."
"The NJCCIC gives every local government entity in New Jersey access to real-time cybersecurity threat intelligence and support, as well as enterprise-grade defense tools," said Michael Geraghty, State Chief Information Security Officer and Director of NJCCIC. "We bridge the gap between local, state, and federal resources so that no county, town, or school has to face a cyber threat alone. The more local government entities enrolled, the stronger New Jersey's collective defense becomes."
"The New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness is proud to oversee one of the most advanced state-level cybersecurity programs in the country, and we are committed to making sure every local government entity in New Jersey has access to it," said Thomas Hauck, Director of NJOHSP. "Governor Sherrill's leadership in championing the NJCCIC is exactly what this program has needed. Its demonstrated capabilities have been instrumental in enhancing cyber defense statewide."
These resources are available to all New Jersey public sector organizations including counties, municipalities, municipal utilities, K-12 public schools, and community colleges.
Funded through a combination of State and federal grants, the program currently serves over 200 municipalities, providing 24/7 advanced cyber defense infrastructure. Interested public sector organizations not yet enrolled can sign up at no cost at cyber.nj.gov/connect/njccic-membership.
What the NJCCIC Provides to Enrolled Participants:
Threat Intelligence, Alerts, and Advisories — continuous monitoring and analysis of cyber threats targeting New Jersey's public sector organizations, with direct alerts, tailored advisories on emerging risks and recommended mitigations, and a weekly bulletin keeping members current on the latest threats and trends.
Risk Assessments — proactive cybersecurity evaluations to identify and address vulnerabilities before an incident occurs.
Incident Response Support — direct state assistance when a cyberattack occurs, coordinated with NJ State Police and Federal partners.
Training and Education — ongoing cybersecurity training, threat briefings, tabletop exercises, and best-practice guidance for municipal staff and leadership.
Enterprise-Grade Defense Tools — round-the-clock monitoring of devices and networks, proactive searches for hidden threats, and simulated attacks to identify and close security gaps before they can be exploited.
