John Currie Announces Candidacy for Re-Election as Passaic County Democratic Chairman

Unanimously Endorsed by Democratic Leaders Representing All 16 Passaic County Municipalities

Passaic County, NJ (June 4, 2026)- Following a decisive Democratic Primary victory, in which the Passaic County Democratic Committee-backed ticket won every countywide and municipal race across Passaic County, Chairman John Currie today announced his candidacy for re-election as Chairman of the Passaic County Democratic Organization.

Currie, who has served as Chairman for more than 35 years and previously served as Chairman of the New Jersey Democratic State Committee, said he is seeking another term because he believes strong, steady leadership and a united Democratic organization are more important than ever.

“At a time when our democracy, our values, and many of our communities continue to face unprecedented challenges from Donald Trump and the MAGA movement, Democrats must remain organized, united, and focused on the people we serve,” said Currie.

Currie credited the success of the Passaic County Democratic Organization to its elected County Committee members, municipal leaders, volunteers, and supporters throughout the county.

“Nothing we have accomplished over the past three decades has been the result of one person,” Currie said. “Together, we have built one of the strongest Democratic organizations in New Jersey. We have elected Democrats at every level of government, expanded opportunities for working families, and strengthened our communities.

Today, Democrats hold every countywide elected office in Passaic County and continue to make gains in communities throughout the county. Following this week's strong primary showing, Currie said he remains committed to growing the organization, strengthening the role of County Committee members in the Democratic Party's future, and continuing to develop the next generation of Democratic leadership.

“Our success has come from unity, hard work, and a shared belief in Democratic values,” Currie said. “The work is not finished. There is too much at stake for Democrats to take anything for granted. I am excited about the future of our party, and I look forward to continuing to work alongside our committee members, municipal leaders, elected officials, and volunteers as we meet the challenges ahead.”

“I have had the privilege of working alongside John Currie for more than thirty years and have come to know him as both an exceptional leader and a trusted friend,” said North Haledon Democratic Leader Anthony DeNova, retired Passaic County Administrator. “John leads with integrity, brings people together, and never loses sight of the people we serve. Throughout the years, I have watched him lead our party through challenges and successes alike while earning the respect of Democrats not only throughout Passaic County, but across New Jersey and around the country. At a time when experienced leadership matters more than ever, I am proud to support his re-election as Passaic County Democratic Chairman.”

Currie’s candidacy has received the unanimous support of Democratic leaders representing every municipality in Passaic County, including:

• Bloomingdale: Bernard Vroom III
• Clifton: John Pogorelec Jr.
• Haledon: Carlos Aymat
• Hawthorne: Pete Oneglia and Louis Imhof
