New Jersey Building and Construction Trades Council Applauds ABC Rule Adoption

New Jersey Building and Construction Trades Council President William T. Mullen today issued the following statement in response to the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development’s adoption of new ABC test regulations to protect workers’ rights: “Well done to New Jersey Labor Commissioner Jarvis and the Sherrill Administration for adopting these important worker classification rules,” said Mullen. “This is a significant step toward cracking down on unscrupulous contractors who misclassify workers, exploit vulnerable trade and craft workers, and place them in dangerous working conditions for low wages and without basic protections.
“For too long, dishonest contractors have used misclassification to undercut the competition, avoid payroll obligations, and deny workers the wages, benefits, training, and safety standards they deserve. Today’s action strengthens enforcement, promotes fair competition, and helps ensure that every worker on a construction jobsite is treated with dignity and protected under the law.
“We commend Commissioner Jarvis and the Department for advancing rules that protect New Jersey’s construction workforce and reinforce our state’s commitment to safe jobs, fair wages, and accountability in the construction industry.”
