PATERSON, N.J. — The Passaic County Board of County Commissioners today marked one year since the launch of Passaic County MOVE, the County’s on-demand microtransit service connecting residents in Clifton and Passaic with where they need to go. Since going live on May 20, 2025, the program has completed more than 75,000 rides and registered more than 8,500 accounts, a milestone that reflects the community’s genuine need for flexible, affordable transportation options.

At their most recent meeting, the Board of County Commissioners approved a resolution to continue Passaic County MOVE for an additional year, extending the service in both Clifton and Passaic through 2027.

“Passaic County MOVE was built on a simple idea: that where you live should not determine your ability to get to work, a doctor’s appointment or the grocery store,” said Passaic County Commissioner John Bartlett. “Surpassing 75,000 rides in just one year is a testament to what’s possible when County government invests in practical, people-first solutions. We’re proud of what this program has accomplished and we remain committed to expanding access to equitable transportation.”

Passaic County MOVE was designed to reach areas where traditional fixed-route bus service cannot efficiently operate, filling critical coverage gaps and giving residents more ways to move through their communities.

The numbers tell a clear story about the program’s impact. Approximately 86% of riders do not own a personal vehicle and nearly half, 48%, use MOVE to get to and from work. The service also plays an important role in connecting riders to the broader transit network, with a significant share of trips beginning or ending at NJ Transit rail and bus stops, making it a true first-and-last-mile solution.

Passaic County MOVE operates Monday through Friday, from 6:00AM to 8:00PM, and is available to anyone traveling within the designated service zone in Passaic and Clifton. Rides can be booked through the mobile app, online or by phone, with wheelchair-accessible vehicles and door-to-door service available for riders with mobility needs.

Residents are encouraged to download the Passaic County MOVE app from the App Store or Google Play or call 973-791-0756 to book a ride by phone.
