Senator McKeon Condemns Trump Administration Repeal of EPA Endangerment Finding
TRENTON – Senator John McKeon (D-Essex/Passaic) released the following statement in response to the Trump Administration’s decision to revoke the Environmental Protection Agency's 2009 Endangerment Finding:
“The Trump Administration’s move to revoke the EPA’s Endangerment Finding is one of the most reckless anti-science actions taken by a federal administration in modern history. This decision deliberately dismantles the scientific and legal foundation that protects Americans from dangerous greenhouse gas pollution and climate harm. It is an extraordinary betrayal of public health and environmental responsibility.
“This finding established what scientists have made undeniably clear for decades: that greenhouse gas emissions endanger human health and welfare. Revoking it is not policy reform; it is willful denial. The administration is choosing political ideology and fossil fuel industry pressure over facts, evidence, and the safety of American families.
“The claim that vehicle and industrial emissions are too insignificant to regulate is flatly false and contradicted by the government’s own data showing transportation is a leading source of greenhouse gas pollution. Weakening these standards does not help Americans; it exposes them to greater risk, higher long-term costs, and worsening climate impacts.
“We are already seeing the damage here in New Jersey through repeated flooding, extreme heat, and more volatile weather. Instead of strengthening protections and accelerating clean energy progress, President Trump is dragging the country backward and attempting to erase decades of scientific consensus with the stroke of a pen.
“New Jersey will not follow this dangerous path. We will continue advancing common-sense climate policy and larger investments in clean energy and environmental protections because the health and future of our residents matter more than the demands of corporate polluters and political allies President Trump is beholden to.”
