Source: Mapp Mulling CD-12 Run

Plainfield Mayor Adrian Mapp is considering a run for Congress in the 12th District, according to a source with knowledge of the mayor's thinking.
At present, the contest for retiring U.S. Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman's (D-12) seat looks like a Somerset-Mercer joust between Shanel Robinson and Verlina Reynolds-Jackson.
But now Union might want in, with the highly politically experienced Mapp - who just won reelection - pondering a run.
The mayor, sources said, has already reached out to party chairs.
This is a developing story.
First sworn into office as the Mayor of Plainfield on January 1, 2014, Mapp is a leading and progressive Democrat whose inclusionary agenda has brought people together and ignited The City of Plainfield's renaissance.
Prior to leading Plainfield, the mayor served 12 years on the City Council, and as Union County Freeholder from 2005 to 2007. Former leader of the resistance movement New Democrats, who first sprang to citywide victory in 2013, Mapp campaigned with Mikie Sherrill on Election Day.
In the lead-up to the election, InsiderNJ caught up with Mayor Mapp at the annual Government Finance Officers Association Conference, where the Union leader addressed his efforts on behalf of the gubernatorial campaign.
"It is our goal to make sure we turn out the votes for Mikie Sherrill and all the candidates on the Democratic line," Mapp told InsiderNJ at the Hard Rock. "This is going to be a very close election. My goal is to get 50 plus percent turnout for Mikie Sherrill. It is that important."
