Senator Michael Testa (R-Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland) released the following statement regarding the Supreme Court’s decision to protect women’s sports:

"Today's decision is a major victory for fairness and the integrity of girls' and women's sports.

“For years, I have advocated for policies that protect equal athletic opportunities for female athletes. In 2021, I introduced the Fairness in Women's Sport Act to ensure that girls and women can compete on a level playing field, and legislation to designate February 4 of each year as Women and Girls in Sports Day in New Jersey.

“The Supreme Court's decision affirms that states have the authority to protect women's sports and preserve the opportunities made possible through decades of progress. It also upholds the spirit and intent of Title IX by ensuring that the educational and athletic opportunities the law was designed to protect for women and girls are not undermined.

“Female athletes deserve the chance to compete, earn scholarships, set records, and achieve their goals without facing unfair competitive disadvantages.

“I remain committed to advancing these protections in New Jersey and will continue fighting to ensure that girls' and women's sports remain fair, competitive, and reserved for female athletes."
