Sarlo Says Grewal will be a ‘National Leader on Racial Justice’

With the news that Governor-elect Phil Murphy intends to name Gurbir Grewal as his choice for state attorney general, state Senator Paul Sarlo (D-36) of South Bergen – chairman of the Senate Budget Committee – welcomed a fellow Bergenite – and the chance for New Jersey to make a national statement.

The Grewal family contains a number of Sarlo financial supporters. Sarlo said he has observed the Bergen County Prosecutor in all weather, and sees him as a presence, whether he’s in front of a group of high school seniors, a Baptist church, or 70 police chiefs.

“It has been my privilege to know our new Attorney General Gurbir Grewal and his family on a personal level and this is indeed as much an honor for his family as it is the people of Bergen County,” Sarlo said. “He is an extremely bright and compassionate leader who demands respect. He is highly respected by law enforcement at every level.

“He is a great guy, who will be a national leader on racial justice,” the senator added.

Sarlo added that Murphy’s selection of Grewal is “a homerun for Bergen.”
