Shavonda Sumter Talks Affordability in New Jersey on State of Affairs

Assemblywoman Shavonda Sumter (D) – NJ, Chair, Community Development, and Affairs Committee, joins Steve Adubato to discuss the Legislature’s efforts to make New Jersey more affordable.

Steve asks Sumter how many people, particularly those in the higher income bracket, are leaving NJ and creating a loss of revenue and income tax.

Asw. Sumter responds, “Steve I think a couple of things, we put in place the anchor program and I’d like to talk a little bit about that because it’s not enough press. That’s a two billion dollar property tax relief, the largest in New Jersey’s history. So we heard from our constituents across the state including affordable housing being a priority and we invested in those spaces. 1.1 million homeowners will experience relief, but you have to take an action step. You actually have to apply, you have to complete the application for the New Jersey anchor program for a check in May 2023 because we lost the SALT deduction.”
