Sherrill and Trump

Mikie Sherrill says she spoke to President Trump late last week about the Gateway Tunnel.
"I expressed to the president how important this project is," Sherrill said in a Tuesday morning interview with News 12. With the massive project about to end, the governor appeared on a number of media outlets this morning to talk about it.
Sherrill spoke of the economic impact.
"This is $20 billion of economic impact to the region," she said, referring to thousands and thousands of construction jobs. Plans call for a new tube - and two rail tunnels - to be constructed under the Hudson.
"The president is very familiar with this region. He knows New Jersey."
Given the president's golf club in Bedminster, Trump does know New Jersey.
Sherrill, of course, also knows the politics of it all.
Trump "terminated" the project last fall in the midst of the government shutdown. The project continued with funds on hand, but money will dry up this week.
Sherrill said she told the president that killing a project that would benefit the largest region in the country "doesn't make any sense."
It's not known what, if anything, the president said in reply to the governor.
Sherrill's media visits coincided with a suit against the Trump Administration by the Gateway Development Commission, which claims "breach of contract," noting that Congress has appropriated $16 billion for the project.
