Sherrill Makes Her Case to Newarkers on the Street in the South Ward

NEWARK - Barnstorming around the state in the closing days of this election season, Mikie Sherrill's bus pulled into her home county this morning, where the Democratic nominee for governor alighted in the South Ward beside U.S. Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-10).
"I love everybody out today," Sherrill told the crowd. "This is the kind of energy we need. This is the kind of fire we need. This is the kind of hard work we need. It all comes down to Essex County. Essex County brings out the vote. Essex County puts us over the line.
"Not just New Jersey," she added. "I'm talking about the future of the nation comes down to whether we - Essex County - gets out the vote. That's how serious this is."
Former two-term President Barack Obama - for a long time derided and smeared by Trump as not legally born in the United States of America - was scheduled to campaign with Sherrill later today.
The Congresswoman's opponent, Republican Jack Ciattarelli, also brought in at least one late-in-the-game star.
According to The New York Times:
Sean Hannity, a Fox News host, held a town hall-style broadcast on Thursday with Mr. Ciattarelli at a yacht club in Point Pleasant, N.J.
The grooves were going in Newark today when the bus pulled onto Hansbury Avenue, where South Ward Democratic Chairman Pat Council had the microphone, ready to welcome his fellow Democrat.
"Healthcare, affordability, decent education, our fight for educational freedom, our fight for our urban metropolises," Council told InsiderNJ. "We matter. Our voices matter. That's what's at stake - to fight against this MAGA movement and the insanity happening on the federal level. It's time for us to push back to say we're not going to take it anymore."
This street where Sherrill rallied the troops, the historic Weequahic neighborhood, contains a special meaning for At-Large Councilman Larry Crump, son of the late Mildred Crump, a beloved figure here.
The Crumps owned a home on this street.
It's where Larry Crump grew up.
"We have to understand what's going on in this country," said Crump. "My parents taught me what happened in the past and how it affected our future. And today it's important that we're out here supporting Mikie Sherrill and Dale Caldwell because it's not about today really but our future, and our kids' future."
Added South Ward diehard Trenton Jones:
"We need a strong leader like Mikie Sherrill to push the New Jersey mission forward. Jack Ciattarelli will only be a puppet for Donald Trump and will push us back further and further."
