Mikie Sherrill, the 2025 Democratic nominee for Governor, will run with the history-making educator Dale G. Caldwell, InsiderNJ has learned.

President of Centenary University since 2023, Caldwell is a former President of the Educational Services Commission of New Jersey (2001-2024), Founding President of the College Achieve of Greater Asbury Park Charter School, and the pastor of Covenant United Methodist Church in Plainfield.

He served as the assistant commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA) for Governor James McGreevey.

In 2018, Caldwell became the executive director of the Rothman Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship in the Silberman College of Business Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Sherrill's LG pick has a Bachelor's Degree from Princeton University and a Doctorate in Education from Seton Hall University - two New Jersey schools.

From the New Jersey Herald in 2023:

A national search for the next leader of one New Jersey college came to an end at another New Jersey institute of higher learning with the selection of Dale G. Caldwell as the first African-American president in the 156-year history of Centenary University.

Caldwell, currently the executive director of the Rothman Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Hackensack, will assume his new duties on July 1. He will succeed Bruce Murphy, who announced in September that he'd be retiring after three years leading the liberal arts school in Hackettstown.

“I am grateful for the board’s confidence in my ability to lead Centenary at this pivotal time in the university’s history,” Caldwell said in a news release announcing his selection on Sunday.

Earlier this week, Jack Ciattarelli, the Republican nominee for Governor, chose Morris County Sherriff Jim Gannon as his running mate.
