Source: Shotmeyer Out of CD5 Sweepstakes; GOP Eyes Turn Toward Raia

A source this weekend told InsiderNJ that GOP fundraiser Chuck Shotmeyer is no longer in the running to challenge U.S. Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-5) in 2018.

That leaves the momentary smart money on Sam Raia, chair of the New Jersey Republican Party, a moneyed Saddle River mayor whom sources say has an interest in challenging for the seat.

Republicans held CD5 going back to 1933, before Gottheimer snatched it last year from incumbent U.S. Rep. Scott Garrett.

  1. As long as they keep DiGaetano out of 40 so he has another Crown to wear, then this should be good for the GOP.
