Steve Adubato Talks with the Essex County Sheriff About Improving Public Trust in Law Enforcement

Amir Jones, Essex County Sheriff, sits down with Steve Adubato to examine the relationship between local, state, and federal law enforcement, immigration and the importance of building public trust through community engagement.
As part of the conversation, Steve asks why, despite statistics showing crime is down, many people still feel that is not the case? Sheriff Jones responds that people tend to focus on the negative, even though a lot of good happens in the community, especially within law enforcement. He notes that in New Jersey and Essex County, they have a strong relationship with the community and, while incidents can occur, they address them appropriately. He adds that officers are highly trained in crisis intervention and de-escalation, as mandated by the attorney general.
