Ward Six Councilman Sayegh Soft Launches Mayoral Candidacy in Silk City

Sayegh

Ward 6 Councilman Andre Sayegh of Paterson soft launched his 2018 mayoral candidacy today in a conversation on Facebook.

“I am planting the seeds for another mayoral run but as the field continues to get crowded I need all the support I can get especially yours,” Sayegh wrote in a Facebook thread.

First elected to the city council in 2008, the Ward 6 councilman ran twice citywide: once in 2010, coming in third behind first place finisher Jeff Jones and second place finisher Jose “Joey” Torres; and again in 2014.

Running with the backing of the Democratic establishment that second time, Sayegh came in second behind Torres in a big field.

Jammed up on corruption charges, Torres resigned at 9 a.m. yesterday, leaving the Silk City in the hands of Acting Mayor Ruby Cotton.

Former Deputy Mayor Pedro Rodriguez, former Police Director Glenn Brown, and Councilmen Alex Mendez and Bill McKoy are all already announced 2018 candidates for mayor.

Councilman Mike Jackson is leaning toward a run.

So is School Board Member Manny Martinez.

Another potential candidate is Passaic County Freeholder Assad Akhter.
