Zero Hour: Passaic Board of Elections - Dems Clash with Peter Murphy, Fed. Monitor 'a Nice' Guy, Guys in Masks, and More

PATERSON - The weight of the country's future apparently sits on the gritty shoulders of Passaic County, where federal monitors from the Trump Administration have landed and the mood - a day before Election - is relaxed.

Well, kind of.

It's relaxed for a First Blood movie (more on that in a minute, below).

"I met one a little while ago, seems like a nice gentleman," Passaic County Board of Elections Chairman John Currie told InsiderNJ, referring to a federal monitor.

"I have no problem with the federal monitors," Currie added. 'When you're running a clean operation,

Peter Murphy

you don't worry about things of that nature. I want him to see what we're doing here and see that everything is run by the book that everyone is treated fairly. The voters are secure. The best thing for everyone is voting: one man one vote. That's what we're looking for."

Of course, the presence of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in masks with masks might jog a few hairs on the backs of a few necks tomorrow. Currie - who doubles as the long-serving Passaic County Democratic Chairman and is a former State Party Chair - had something to say on that subject, too.

Certainly, it isn't all sweetness and light here.

Forget about the feds.

Passaic doesn't actually need them to spark controversy around election time.

Everyone's got one another, but then, against the backdrop of the Trump Administration, any minor dustup could turn into a conflagration, and with that in mind, the two county party organizations locked horns this morning at a firehouse polling site.

Passaic County Republican Committee Chairman Peter Murphy showed up, not voting, and out of order, according to the Dems.

"After being asked to leave, he allegedly returned and produced a credential that did not bear his name," complained Michael Cerrone, Jr., counsel to the Passaic County Democratic Party, in a letter to the State Attorney General's Office. "Records show no such credential was issued to him. It is further alleged that Mr. Murphy may have forged or misrepresented his credentials."
