Bramnick on Menendez: ‘You’re Innocent Until Proven Guilty’

Assembly Republican Leader Jon Bramnick (R-21) refused to bludgeon U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ) this afternoon, when asked for his response about Phil Murphy’s comments concerning the corruption trial-embattled senior senator from New Jersey.

“I’m not going to comment on whether someone should or shouldn’t resign,” Bramnick said. “My comment is ‘you’re innocent until proven guilty.’ I’m a lawyer, I’ve represented people in court, and I would never comment on someone’s potential guilt in a trial. That’s my comment.”

Bramnick made his comment son the same day that U.S. Rep. Tom MacArthur (R-3) lit into Murphy for failing to make harder statements to the media about Menendez.

  1. Even if a jury decides Menendez isn’t guilty of a crime, what he did was beyond the pale. He spent more time helping his friend, who isn’t even a constituent, than he did the people who elected him. And the volume and value of the “gifts” was well beyond what a normal friend gives to another. And gifts are not requested, like Menedez did with great specificity, unless you are a child filling out a gift list for Santa Claus.
