Enraged By Trump Response to Hurricane, Quintana Says He Will Go Into Battlegrounds to Campaign Against Prez

NEWARK – At a pro-Puerto Rico rally this morning organized by SEIU 1199, At-Large Councilman (and former Newark Mayor) Luis Quintana said he and other Puerto Ricans would not soon forget the disrespect he said President Donald J. Trump showed the island in his response to the devastation wrought by Hurricane Maria.

Buttressed by ground troops from 32BJ SEIU and SEIU 1039, Quintana said he and others will be prepared to go to other states in the lead-up to 2020 to campaign in key areas against the President.

The veteran local elected leader, a longtime survivor of numerous political wars and one of the only elected officials to straddle the Sharpe James-Cory Booker and Ras Baraka eras – predicted that Trump will go belly up politically in time for the next presidential election.

The image of Trump tossing rolls of paper towels to people in a crowd especially offended Quintana.

“Today is Puerto Rico, the next day is somewhere else,” he said. “We’re tired of colonization. We are a colonization without representation.

“We need to go register our people,” the councilman said. “We have a lot of energy, and we need to take our energy and put into the polling sites and show people that they will respect us. Whether you like me or you like someone else, you’re going to vote.”

  1. Why doesn’t Quintana just go down to Puerto Rico to help instead of politicizing what isn’t a real issue. PLENTY of aid going down there. There are only so many places to land such a huge amount of aid at one time. Did he miss the Hospital Ship Comfort sailing into port and the thousands of containers already landed?
