Governor Sherrill Backs Mayor Sayegh in the Roar of the Bonfire

PATERSON - Governor Mikie Sherrill jumped feet first into Silk City politics tonight with a strong endorsement for incumbent Paterson Mayor Andre Sayegh.

"If I'm going to keep being able to deliver for the people of New Jersey, then I need great teammates - I need a great mayor in Paterson with Mayor Sayegh," said Sherrill onstage at the Bonfire.

Chants followed for Sayegh of "Four more years! Four more years!"

The Governor took the stage here after receiving an introduction by state Senator Benjie Wimberly (D-35), who stood with Assemblyman Al Abdelaziz (D-35).

"We have a great senator," said Sherrill. "We have a great assemblyman. But there's something missing, guys. We need some strong women in Paterson."

Sherrill proceeded to issue her endorsement for Sayegh's running mates, Council President Dr. Lilisa Mimms and Council Vice President Maritza Davila.

"There is so much at stake," said the Governor. "There is so much we can do to drive a different path forward."

Third Ward Councilman Alex Mendez and Ward 1 Councilman Mike Jackson weren't here, of course. They're both running in the May 12th nonpartisan election against Sayegh, along with former Councilman (and Khalique adversary) Mohammed Akhtaruzzaman.
