Governor Phil Murphy since Thursday has been trying to get Speaker Craig Coughlin (D-19) to accept a compromise on the disclosure bill set for consideration on Monday by the Assembly.
The front office and speaker’s staffs have gone back and forth on a compromise that includes the elected official provision, but supposedly “cleans up” language to protect First Amendment issues the governor cited when he vetoed the original version.
A statehouse source described the situation at this time as conversational, nothing more.
“I wouldn’t make more of it than that,” the source said.
