Dear Friends:

It is with great pride and enthusiasm that I endorse Tammy Murphy for U.S. Senate. Working alongside her husband, Governor Phil Murphy, Tammy has helped lead New Jersey through some of our most challenging times, which has included the COVID pandemic, and made great strides to enhance the health and vitality of all New Jerseyans.

Tammy has redefined the role of the First Lady in New Jersey, taking the position from one who mainly carries out ceremonial duties to making it one of great substance. We knew Tammy would make her mark in State government early on when she located her office within the Governor’s suite. Since then, she has championed programs to address the maternal and infant mortality crisis, promoted adding climate change to K-12 school curriculum and shined a spotlight on the importance of developing and strengthening small, women and minority owned businesses. These are important issues facing us in Essex County, and Tammy’s work has impacted Essex County for the better.

I am a true believer in breaking down barriers and fostering equity and fairness in politics and our community. I am proud that our own Sheila Oliver became the first African American woman to serve as Speaker of the NJ Assembly and was the first African American elected to a statewide office when she was elected as Lt. Governor with Governor Murphy in 2018 and that M. Teresa Ruiz is the first Latina to serve in the NJ State Senate and first Latina to become NJ Senate Majority Leader. Tammy would break another gender barrier by becoming the first woman elected as a U.S. Senator to represent New Jersey.

New Jersey has enjoyed a legacy of superior representation in the U.S. Senate, and we can expect nothing less from Tammy Murphy.

Sincerely,

Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr.

Essex County Executive
