32BJ Opposes Use of Public Land for Luxury Development, Will Join Councilman Solomon at Wednesday Vote

JERSEY CITY, NJ – 32BJ SEIU, the largest property services workers union in the country, announced its opposition to Jersey City’s plan to allow public land for to be used for luxury development in order to plug budget holes. The union will join Councilman James Solomon on Wednesday evening to oppose the measure at the City Council meeting.

“Jersey City families deserve long-term solutions, not short-term budget fixes. Kushner Real Estate should not be building luxury towers on public land that deliver no affordable housing, no good jobs, and no community benefits. Public land must serve the public good,” said Ana Maria Hill, 32BJ SEIU Vice President and New Jersey State Director.

32BJ SEIU emphasized that selling off public land for luxury developers to build on fails to address the real needs of working families. Instead, the union urges city leaders to prioritize investments that deliver affordable housing, quality jobs, and lasting community benefits.
