Andy Kim Wins News 12 Debate, Bob Healey Wants to “Negotiate” Away Women’s Healthcare Rights in NJ

Andy Kim Wins News 12 Debate, Bob Healey Wants to “Find a Compromise Somewhere Around the First Trimester” on Abortion

MARLTON NJ – Today Andy Kim handily won the debate between candidates in the race for New Jersey’s 3rd Congressional District hosted by News 12. After winning the debate, Kim provided the following statement:

“This debate was an important way for voters to see the choice before them,” said Andy Kim. “I’m a public servant fighting to lower prescription drug costs and standing up against corporate price gouging. I’m working in a bipartisan way to keep us safe by supporting our law enforcement and building a strong military. And I’m standing up for the freedom for women to make their own health decisions. I was deeply alarmed to hear my opponent publicly and declaratively say in this debate he wants to severely restrict a woman’s choice right here in New Jersey and that he didn’t back the support that kept small businesses afloat during the pandemic.”

Kim highlighted his extensive work lowering prices for Americans, including holding Big Oil accountable for price gouging Americans, lowering healthcare costs by passing legislation to finally allow medicare to negotiate down the cost of prescription medication, capping insulin at $35 per month and capping out-of-pocket prescription medication costs at $2,000 for seniors.

He answered a question from a voter in Cinnaminson who was concerned about crime by highlighting his partnerships with local police: recently helping the Cinnaminson Police Department get the funds to hire 3 new police officers, securing $32,000 for the Stafford Police Department to expand their successful On POINT program, and earning the endorsement of the New Jersey Fraternal Order of Police – for the second time in a row.

Kim also spoke about his work for veterans, bringing a new VA health clinic to New Jersey, doubling the funding for veteran and servicemember suicide prevention programs, and earning the New Jersey VFW Legislator of the Year award. Finally, Kim talked about how important it is to heal this country, from responding to a question about him cleaning up the Capitol building the night of January 6th, to working in a bipartisan way to support Ukraine, and how he’s eager to work with anyone that will help New Jersey’s working families.

During the same debate, Bob Healey told New Jersey voters that he’s ready to “compromise” on women’s healthcare and reproductive rights. He failed to prove to voters that he has any coherent plan to lead, and did not talk once about a single policy priority. Healey lost this debate and he and his campaign are staggering aimlessly towards Election Day.
