CALLS FOR ASSEMBLYMAN RUMPF TO RESIGN FROM PATRONAGE POSITION OR BOW OUT OF RACE

(Galloway) – Wayne Lewis, candidate for Assembly in the 9th Legislative District, has called for 9th District Assemblyman Brian Rumpf (R-Little Egg Harbor) to either step down from his role in the General Assembly or his full-time, six-figure position at the Ocean County Health Department.

In a statement issued on social media, Wayne Lewis said, “I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – we deserve better than corrupt career politicians using their power to become wealthy – on the taxpayers’ dime no less. Assemblyman Rumpf, your constituents deserve a representative who will put their whole heart into serving the public, regardless of whether the position is part-time. You must choose between stepping down from what is a obviously a patronage position at the Ocean County Health Department, or by bowing out of the election before November.”

According to the Asbury Park Press, the director of personnel and program development of the Ocean County Health Department is typically required to possess five years of HR supervisory experience in a major public personnel program and the same amount of risk management experience. Rumpf, who is a private attorney and former mayor, has neither, nor does he possess any experience in public health whatsoever. Although the board hired Rumpf during a public meeting, they omitted any mention of it from the agenda.

The Star-Ledger Editorial Board called for Rumpf’s resignation from the Assembly in January. It is unclear whether Rumpf took the civil service test required for the position throughout the last ten months of his tenure at the Ocean County Health Department.
