Community Coalition Unites for “No Kings” Rally in Atlantic City on October 18

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ — A broad coalition of local organizations and community leaders will gather in Atlantic City for the No Kings Rally, a nonpartisan event focused on democracy, accountability, and people-powered policy change. The rally, organized in collaboration with Indivisible Empathy United, Atlantic County Council of Education Associations, NAACP Atlantic City Branch, El Pueblo Unido Atlantic City, Food & Water Watch, South Jersey Progressive Democrats, Atlantic County Queer Alliance, Stockton Democrats, and the South Jersey Democratic Women’s Forum, among others. The event will begin with a march starting at Missouri Avenue and the Boardwalk at 2:00 PM on October 18th. The march will exit the boardwalk at Albany Avenue. The rally will begin at 3:00 PM at O’Donnell Memorial Park. The No Kings event builds on the momentum of the June 14th demonstration that drew hundreds of residents calling for policies rooted in fairness, equity, and collective responsibility. This October’s rally comes just two weeks before the general election and emphasizes the urgency of voting, civic engagement, and holding leaders accountable to the people they represent.
“Democracy is not a spectator sport,” said Councilman Kaleem Shabazz, President of the NAACP Atlantic City Branch. “This event is about reminding people that our voices and our votes matter. We can’t let extremism or apathy dictate our future.”
Speakers will include Reverend Collins Days, Galloway resident and local activist Theresa McReynolds, nurse and healthcare advocate Lisa Bonnano, union leader and activist Melissa Tomlinson, immigrant rights leader and community organizer Cristian Moreno, poet L’oreal Vintage, and Atlantic City’s liaison and coordinator of LGBTQ+ programs and services Judah Dorrington, among others. The program will feature spoken word performances, policy-driven calls to action, and voter empowerment messages.
Policy Focus
Participants will highlight key legislative priorities currently before the New Jersey Legislature, including The Immigrant Trust Act (S3672/A4987), Gender-Affirming Care Protections (S2491/A4656), The Climate Superfund Act (S3545/A4696), and Teacher Pension Justice Reform.
“Atlantic City is ground zero for the climate crisis in New Jersey, and Hurricane Erin is the latest reminder of the human and economic costs we face,” said Kate Delany, Senior South Jersey Organizer at Food & Water Watch. “The Climate Superfund Act offers a fair solution: make the polluters who caused this mess pay to protect our communities.” Each speaker will address how issues impact local residents and urge attendees to contact their representatives and vote their values.
Safety planning has been coordinated with the Atlantic City Police Department, and event security will be led by community volunteers.
