Congressman Rob Menendez Joins Congressional Delegation Visit to the U.S.-Mexico Border

Menendez Visits the Southern Border of the United States in First Official Trip

EL PASO, TX – Congressman Rob Menendez concluded his visit to El Paso, Texas as part of a delegation led by Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16). Congressman Menendez visited the southern border to gain a firsthand understanding of the ongoing challenges facing border communities, migrants, and the federal government as a result of longstanding shortcomings in the U.S.’s immigration system.

“When it comes to our immigration system and southern border, we must move past our nation’s failed approach and do the work to achieve a real, longstanding, and comprehensive solution,” said Congressman Rob Menendez. “Visiting the border for my first trip as a Member of Congress reflects my commitment to solving this pressing issue. Touring the border and engaging with community leaders, migrants, law enforcement, and advocates has only made clearer that we need solutions based not on polarizing rhetoric, but grounded in the reality of the situation in border communities like El Paso. And any solution must address root causes of migration including poverty, violence, and political instability in Central America.”

The Congressional Delegation met with several stakeholders, including immigration advocates, government officials, members of the El Paso business community, and faith leaders during site visits that included the Paso Del Norte Port of Entry, a CBP Central Processing Center, the El Paso County Migrant Support Services Center, Annunciation House, and Sacred Heart Church.
