Hudson County Clerk Junior Maldonado told InsiderNJ that his office dispatched 28,000 vote-by-mail ballots as of last Thursday.

"Voters in quite a few municipalities are already receiving them, and in some cases returning them via drop box," Maldonado said.

The clerk does not foresee any havoc, despite the President of the United States calling for the curtailment of voting by mail.

His office went into action early after President Trump's executive order in March, subsequently nullified by a court injunction and yet to receive a Supreme Court examination.

"If we didn't get engaged early, it would have created chaos and it would have disenfranchised voters," Maldonado said.  "As the Hudson County clerk, my job is to enfranchise not disenfranchise voters.

"The Supreme court hasn't taken any action," added the clerk, who sees that as a sign of the election proceeding as scheduled, VBMs included.
