DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE VINNIE KEARNEY RELEASES LATEST AD IN LD-21; CALLS OUT MUÑOZ & MATSIKOUDIS FOR LACK OF LEADERSHIP
GARWOOD, NJ – October 14, 2025 – Today, Democratic Candidate and Borough Councilman Vinnie Kearney (D-Garwood) released the latest ad in his bid to replace Nancy Muñoz and Michele Matsikoudis in the State Assembly. Along with the help of Stephanie Bianco, a friend, colleague and former Republican, Kearney calls out Muñoz and Matsikoudis for their failure to lead on issues like abortion and gun safety, as well as their inability to stand up to Jack Ciattarelli and the MAGA wing of their Party.

“We can’t count on Nancy Muñoz and Michele Matsikoudis when it matters most,” said Bianco. “They didn’t stand up for abortion rights, opposed gun safety laws, and now they stand with Jack Ciatterelli.”
The ad highlights Muñoz and Matsikoudis’ abstention from voting on the historic Freedom of Reproductive Choice Act (S49), a bill that codified abortion rights into New Jersey state law. Muñoz and Matsikoudis also abstained from a vote that would protect women seeking abortions from extradition (A3947).
While claiming to protect victims of domestic violence has been at the forefront of Muñoz and Matsikoudis’ campaign, the latter voted against a bill preventing domestic violence offenders from receiving a permit to carry firearms (A4769).
Matsikoudis also voted against key gun safety laws, including a bill tracking ammunition sales while raising the age to purchase to 21 (A1302) and a bill requiring new NJ residents to register as firearm owners (S1204).
Kearney is a husband, father to two twin boys, a Detective with the Union County Sheriff’s Office and has been on Garwood town council since 2020. Vinnie is a graduate of the John H. Stamler Police Academy and worked as a 9-1-1 dispatcher and emergency medical technician before joining the Sheriff’s Office. He was also a senior official with the Kean University PD.
