NORTH ARLINGTON – With supporters of the GOP incumbents now destroying signs of local Democrats, how low will some go to intimidate those who believe in competitive elections and a grass roots democracy?

Republicans currently occupy all seven seats, no Democrat has served since 2019.

For those who believe random Republican tax reassessments are wrong, massive overdevelopment even worse!

Democrat John Balwierczak, a former Republican seeking a council seat next month is clearly upset by these criminal actions.

“Democrats are scared. Our supporters are afraid. This kind of dirty politics has no place in a small community like North Arlington. Who believes this kind of nonsense is acceptable? What makes it all the worse is that Kirk Del Russo and Amanda DeCicco are enabling this kind of behavior by remaining silent,” offered the candidate.

“They didn’t just steal a sign; they defaced our property and left a message of political intimidation and I’m tired of this kind of low ball, gutter politics,” said Balwierczak.

The two Democrats in a filed police report are seeking any security video that captured the incident as it occurred.

“No supporter of our campaign would engage in this kind of criminal action. Our opponents obviously can’t say the same.”

“This is the reason I left the local Republican Party. This hatred of Democrats and anyone else who disagrees with their politics is dangerous and counterproductive to open and honest government. We had union volunteers from the AFL-CIO told they could not canvass homes by the NAPD and were forced to discontinue those efforts. They were told a permit was needed to campaign, which is a lie. The environment created by the Republicans and specifically Pronti is so toxic and despicable. He wants Democrats eliminated from the political equation once and for all. He is intolerant of our two-party system and represents the kind of political stunts that scares residents,” offered Balwierczak.

Council candidate Cengiz “Jim” Sever; a longtime homeowner, father and husband found the whole episode frightening.

“My family is upset. This kind of behavior is intentionally intimidating. We as Democrats find this criminal and unacceptable. It is done and designed to harass those who are Democrats who seek responsible two-party government. This isn’t campaigning, this is political terrorism, and our opponents won’t even go on the record and publicly reject this kind of gutter politics. This is not about winning or losing, it’s about intimidating those who disagree with the way this community is being operated by this monopoly of Republicans that answer to no one or anything.”

“As a union member and father, I have promoted to my family the importance of participating in the political process. But what rational person condones this kind of dangerous activity? What responsible Republican would support this kind of vandalism and criminal activity? Defacing signs of your competition? It’s sad and Pronti, Del Russo and DeCicco should be embarrassed by these actions that have no place in North Arlington.”
