Bushnauskas, the Bridge Builder

Since winning the Primary in June, Thomas Bushnauskas has been working hard to develop and to address the issues that those living in his Ward have shared with him.  His platform was originally released in August when his website went live and during the month of October, a mailer, similar to this article,  was sent to the community to address his platform and his concerns.

Mr. Bushanauskas’ ORIGINAL initiatives and forward thinking has earned him endorsements from Local Union 152 Endorsements, New Jersey Young Democrats, Passaic County Young Democrats, and Millennials for New Jersey.  

Thomas Bushnauskas has lived in Hawthorne all his life. He is a graduate of Hawthorne High School and Montclair State University. He is currently pursuing his Master’s Degree in Data Analysis. He works as an ABA specialist as well as working as an intern for a United States Senator.  Thomas comes from a family with a long history of public service. His uncle served as a Councilman in Haledon, and his father has served as a County Committee member in Hawthorne. Thomas is also a County Committee member, as well as a Trustee to the Hawthorne Education Foundation.

Bridging the community and the county – Thomas is working with county officials to institute shared services amongst the towns within the county. This shared service plan will reduce taxes within the town of Hawthorne.

PCTI Bus Stops:  The first priority of this issue is the safety of the students attending PCTI.  By limiting bus stops from nineteen to two, the safety of students is now in danger. The town must make the safety of students a priority. Further, pedestrian and traffic issues will ensue because of the present policy.  Once on the council, Thomas will work closely to devise a plan that is accommodating to all those involved.

Trash Pickup:  The present disposal waste company has been negligent with their duties.  Their trucks are constantly break down causing pickups to be ignored or delayed leading to not only unsightly conditions but also encouraging unsanitary conditions within the town, including rodents and insects.  Further, the employees of the present garbage company lack professionalism, integrity and trust from the community. Thomas will stress that contracts of trash vendors are upheld and provide the necessary services to the town without depending on an increase of taxes.

Train Station: The train station in the Ward is not appealing to travelers for it lacks necessary shelter during inclement weather. Thomas pledges to increase the appeal and safety of this station while providing adequate accommodations for Hawthorne residents.  This facility needs upgrades to provide our travelers access to shelter during the winter. Thomas plans to work closely with NJ transit to make necessary accommodations to those who use this facility.
