HealthCare Institute of New Jersey statement on the passage of federal PBM reforms

Trenton, February 3, 2026 ― Chrissy Buteas, President and Chief Executive Officer of the HealthCare Institute of New Jersey (HINJ – www.hinj.org), released the following statement concerning Congressional passage of federal reforms to pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) practices:
“We thank our federal representatives for their tireless work to lower healthcare costs. Today’s passage of this common-sense, bipartisan legislation will have significant benefits to American patients. Reforming PBM practices is one of the most effective and immediate ways to reduce costs, and this is an important first step – one that will help millions of Medicare patients and others at the pharmacy counter.”
“These reforms make sense not just for federal programs, but for New Jersey patients covered by commercial plans as well. We commend Governor Sherrill for her continued focus on PBM reform in the state – from her Congressional tenure to her campaign proposals, she has advocated for similar state policies to make healthcare more affordable, and we look forward to working with the Governor and the Legislature to extend these federal PBM reforms to New Jersey’s marketplace as quickly as possible.”
