HIGHTSTOWN BOROUGH AWARDED TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE FOR MOBILITY PLAN
Hightstown, NJ, DATE: December 3, 2019

Mayor Lawrence Quattrone announced that the Borough of Hightstown has been awarded an NJDOT Technical Assistance Grant for the creation of a Mobility Plan in the Borough of Hightstown.
The Borough established a Complete Streets Committee to evaluate the need for appropriate pedestrian and bicycle facilities in the Borough of Hightstown as part of the Complete Streets Program. The Committee noted that Hightstown is in need of a comprehensive Mobility Plan as a guide to create a connected network of safe pedestrian routes and bicycle facilities throughout the community. The
Complete Streets Committee, with the consent of Council, applied for technical assistance through the NJ Department of Transportation for the creation of a Mobility Plan, including a network map and typical design cross-sections that can be used to support the installation of appropriate pedestrian and bicycle facilities in accordance with Complete Streets when municipal capital improvement projects are undertaken.  Such a plan will aid the Borough in addressing circulation goals in accordance with its Complete Streets policy.  Past efforts to implement measures to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety have shown that a broader Mobility Plan is necessary to provide a comprehensive and holistic view of how vehicles, pedestrians and bicycles are envisioned to fit into the Hightstown circulation network.   The Plan will be consistent with the standards established in the State of New Jersey Complete Streets Design Guide
and those in the Mercer County Master Plan Transportation Element, since most major roadways through the Borough are under the jurisdiction of the State or County.

Mayor Quattrone commended the Complete Streets Committee in crafting the grant application and noted that he looks forward to seeing the adoption of an efficient mobility plan in the Borough that makes the community safe for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists.
