Hightstown Democrats Call for Local Republican to Exit Race Due to Controversial Statements

OPEN LETTER TO
Skye Gilmartin
Hightstown Republican Committee Chair

It brings me no pleasure to write this letter, but after reviewing the social media postings of Republican candidate Zack Geltzeiler, I cannot remain silent. As leader of your party, and a fellow Hightstown resident, I call on you to join me in urging Zack to leave the Borough Council race.

Zack’s posts and shared messages endorse nearly every conspiracy theory that one can imagine. These statements also run the gamut of sexism, racism, and truly unhinged remarks.

I must assume that until now you have been unaware of these statements, and that with prior knowledge, you would not have supported such a candidate. I have shaken your hand, as I have his, and I looked forward to a respectful competition between our candidates. However, these egregious statements came not from a personal account, but from Zack’s campaign social media. If this is Zack the candidate, I fear what he would bring to our borough if elected to council.

As a tiny borough, Hightstown will always be an underdog. We all must work together to ensure our needs are addressed. What we cannot afford is a major distraction capable of derailing all forward progress, while tarnishing the reputation of Hightstown throughout the state.

I will share this letter with the residents of Hightstown so that they may see what has transpired here. While I await your reply, I invite all residents to view a summary of these messages at https://www.hightstowndemocrats.com/election-2025
