JOHN MITZAK CONFIRMED UNANIMOUSLY AS NEW BRIDGEWATER POLICE CHIEF
Bridgewater, NJ – At tonight’s Town Council meeting, Mayor Matthew Moench recommended Captain John Mitzak as the next Chief of the Bridgewater Police. Mitzak, who has been serving as Acting Chief since the retirement of former Chief Paul Payne in August, was unanimously confirmed by the Town Council for his new role, and will be sworn-in Thursday afternoon at the Municipal Complex.
“Promoting Captain Mitzak to Chief was a home run,” said Council Vice-President Michael Kirsh. “Captain Mitzak’s record is impeccable and he has performed admirably as Acting Chief over the past few months – this is the right move to make.”
“I’ve known John for a long time,” said Councilman Tim Ring. “It is a testament to his dedication to the residents of Bridgewater that he will be our next Chief of Police, I wish him nothing but success in his new role.”
Upon his swearing in on Thursday afternoon, Captain Mitzak will become the 8th Chief since the founding of the Bridgewater Police department in 1965. The initial force was composed of 11 officers – today the department has nearly 80 officers.
“I am thrilled that the Council shared my feelings that Captain Mitzak was the correct man for the job,” said Mayor Matthew Moench. “John Mitzak will be an outstanding Chief of Police, and I look forward to working with him in this new capacity, I know he’ll make us proud.”
