New Jersey Electricity Costs Spike 18.4% After Trump Breaks Promise to 'Make America Affordable Again'

On the campaign trail, Donald Trump promised New Jerseyans that he would lower costs on “Day One,” but his administration has done everything but. According to new data, electricity costs have spiked 18.4% in New Jersey since Trump took office, underscoring how working families are paying the price for Trump’s failed policies every day.

This comes as Trump’s “affordability czar,” which Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent promised the administration would appoint a year ago, has yet to materialize.

Last year, Trump repeatedly promised that energy bills across the country would be “cut in half” within 12 months. One year in, and electricity prices are spiking — another broken promise from Donald Trump.

In response, DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:

“Donald Trump continues to break promises he made to New Jerseyans, especially when it comes to costs. Instead of lowering costs on ‘Day One’ as he promised, Trump’s disastrous economic policies have skyrocketed utility costs, pushing New Jersey families even more to the brink as they watch their electricity bills go through the roof. Last year, Donald Trump promised that energy bills would be cut in half. Instead, Trump has done more to line the pockets of his billionaire buddies than follow through on his promise to lower energy costs for New Jersey families. Make no mistake: Trump owns this affordability crisis. Meanwhile, Democrats are fighting to lower costs for every New Jerseyan.”
