New Jersey Future to honor six projects from across the state in 20th Annual Smart Growth Awards


TRENTON, October 12, 2022—New Jersey Future (NJF) has announced this year’s award winning projects and leadership honorees as part of their 20th annual Smart Growth Awards. The awards ceremony will be screened on November 10, 2022 for virtual audiences.


Since 2002, New Jersey Future has honored smart planning and redevelopment in New Jersey through the Smart Growth Awards. The projects and plans featured throughout the 20 years of NJF’s award series represent some of the best examples of sustainable growth and redevelopment in the state, and 2022’s selections are no different.

North Trenton / Battle Monument Choice Neighborhood Plan Connects People and Place: Landmark adopted plan that seeks to create reinvestment in Trenton while providing high-quality mixed-income housing options and complete streets.


Taylor Vose Building Brings Life to Downtown South Orange: State-of-the-art mixed-use development that is reshaping the historic downtown core in South Orange and reconnecting it with its past.


Passaic’s Dundee Island Park Combines Recreation, Green Infrastructure, Art, and Indigenous History: Revitalized park that combines recreation, public art, and green infrastructure to improve quality of life in Passaic.


Pacific Avenue Redevelopment Plan Revitalizes Downtown Wildwood: Innovative plan that will connect neighborhoods and restore a vibrant downtown in Wildwood.


202 Park in Cherry Hill Centers Connectivity, Accessibility, and Affordability: New riverfront development in Cherry Hill that provides a variety of housing options, as well access to recreational and commercial activities.


Lion Gate Park and Urban Wetland Floodplain in Bloomfield Offers Opportunities for Resilience and Restoration on the Passaic: A former brownfield site was converted into a park space to provide recreational opportunities and reduce flood risk in Bloomfield.


New Jersey Future is also honoring Christopher Daggett and Yvette Jordan with the Cary Edwards Leadership Award for their immense contributions to the future of our great state through their careers as public servants and community leaders. The Cary Edwards Leadership Award recognizes individuals who have an outstanding commitment to improving quality of life and promoting smart growth in New Jersey through sustainable land-use policy and practice.


Christopher Daggett will be recognized for his career-long dedication across public, private, and nonprofit sectors to good government, environmental resilience, and equitable growth in New Jersey. Two virtual screenings: 12:00-1:00 p.m. and 5:00-6:00 p.m.

There is no cost to attend but pre-registration is required.





The 2022 Smart Growth Awards will be a virtual ceremony, with a pre-recorded video premiering on November 10, 2022. Each award winning project and leader will be featured in their own video segment.
