NJ PBS Reflects on the 10th Anniversary of Superstorm Sandy with Special Newscast and Public Affairs Programs Featuring Interviews  with Former Gov. Chris Christie and Former Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno

October 28, 2022 – NEWARK, NJ – NJ PBS announced special editions of its news and public affairs programming to reflect on the 10th Anniversary of Superstorm Sandy, starting with a NJ Spotlight News with Briana Vannozzi special, “Superstorm Sandy 10 Years Later,” airing tonight, Friday, October 28, during the newscast’s usual timeslots at 6 p.m., 7:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. on NJ PBS (check local listings).

In the newscast special, Sr. Correspondent Brenda Flanagan returns to Union Beach, considered by many to be ground zero for the storm, and hears from residents and business owners about how their town was changed forever by Sandy.

Former Governor Chris Christie reflects with Sr. Political Correspondent David Cruz about preparing for and responding to such a storm, worse than any other in state history, and the shock of seeing the devastation first-hand and his role as what might be considered “Consoler in Chief”. Christie’s full interview will air on this weekend’s Chat Box with David Cruz program, airing on Saturday, October 29 at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday, October 30 at 10:30 a.m. on NJ PBS (check local listings). In that conversation, Christie discusses the challenges the state faces in terms of climate change and what needs to be done to prepare and protect New Jersey from future natural disasters. Stream it now on YouTube.

Sr. Correspondent Joanna Gagis gets a look at how Hoboken, the Garden State city probably hit hardest by Superstorm Sandy, has built up its flood defenses to become a model of resiliency, and assesses what more needs to be done to protect it from future storms.

And Anchor Briana Vannozzi speaks with Rutgers climate scientist Bob Kopp on how climate change is leading to rising seas and more frequent and intense storms.

On this weekend’s edition of Reporters Roundtable with David Cruz, Former Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno discusses Sandy and the factors that went into the decisions made for the state at that time. Reporters Colleen O’Dea (NJ Spotlight News), Brent Johnson (NJ.com) and Matt Katz (WNYC) talk about what it was like covering Sandy, the politics/policies behind the scenes, and whether the environment and climate change are top issues in the upcoming midterms. The program airs Saturday, October 29 at 6 p.m. and Sunday, October 30 at 10 a.m. on NJ PBS (check local listings). Stream it now on YouTube.
