NJCPA Member Jose Borbon Graduates from  AICPA Leadership Academy 

ROSELAND, N.J. – The New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJCPA) congratulates Jose M. Borbon, CPA, an assistant vice president and senior auditor at Kearny Bank, on graduating from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants’ (AICPA) 2019 Leadership Academy. Borbon, a member of NJCPA’s Emerging Leaders, Federal Taxation, Accounting & Auditing Standards interest groups and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) Auditing Standards interest group, was one of 36 emerging leaders nationally to graduate this year. The four-day event was held October 6-10 in Durham, North Carolina.

“The Leadership Academy was an incredible experience that truly inspires and invigorates participants to be servant leaders in the public and private sectors,” said Borbon.

The program is meant to serve as a succession plan for CPAs, ensuring a strong base of competent and committed leaders who understand the legacy of the profession and have the passion and skills necessary to address the challenges of an ever-changing global business environment. The event also encourages self-reflection and a thoughtful exploration of how leadership impacts their personal and professional lives. Candidates were recommended by their employers, state CPA societies or both, and submitted essays.

The Leadership Academy uses interactive workshops to give participants access to advanced leadership training, networking activities and presentations from some of the profession’s top thought leaders, such as William (Bill) Reeb, CPA, CITP, CGMA, chair of the AICPA; Barry C. Melancon, CPA, CGMA, president and CEO of the AICPA and CEO of the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants; and Mark Koziel, CPA, CGMA, executive vice president of firm services for the AICPA.

“It’s an exciting time to be a young leader in the accounting profession. This year’s Leadership Academy class is an impressive group of diverse professionals who are well-positioned to take the next step in their careers,” said Reeb. “New technology is disrupting the profession and creating new opportunities and challenges for CPAs. These talented CPAs are a great example of the forward-thinking leaders who will not only help steer us through this transition but lead us beyond it.”
