NRDC Action Fund Endorses Sherrill for NJ Governor

WASHINGTON (September 24, 2025) – The NRDC Action Fund, a leading national environmental organization, today announced its endorsement of Mikie Sherrill for governor of New Jersey. In Congress, Sherrill delivered results for the state by securing funding to make communities more flood resilient, replace lead water pipes, address pollution, and protect open spaces. As governor she has a bold plan to lower utility costs and invest in clean, cheap power generation while holding PJM, the regional grid operator, accountable for mismanagement. Her opponent, Jack Ciattarelli, dismisses PJM’s role in creating the current energy affordability crises and supports President Trump’s repeal of clean energy generation incentives.

“Mikie Sherrill will tackle rising electric bills for New Jersey families by rapidly expanding cleaner, cheaper energy sources and creating the good-paying jobs that come with them,” said Manish Bapna, president and CEO of the NRDC Action Fund. “She will fight to clean up polluted land, water, and air across the Garden State. We’re proud to stand with Mikie Sherrill, who has shown she can work across the aisle to get things done.”

“I am honored to have the support of the NRDC Action Fund as we build the largest possible coalition to win in November. New Jerseyans are struggling to keep up with out-of-control energy costs. That’s why on Day One, I am declaring a State of Emergency on Utility Costs. I’ll also significantly build out cleaner and cheaper power generation, such as solar and battery storage, to bring families’ costs down. PJM, our grid operator, has been jacking up costs and refusing to connect power to the grid. I’ll take them to court to ensure New Jerseyans aren’t paying for their mismanagement. And I’ll stand up to anyone — from our grid operator and the utility companies to Trump — to solve our energy crisis and put money back into New Jerseyans’ pockets,” said Sherrill.

Sherrill’s record in Congress includes championing the permanent reauthorization and full funding of the Land and Water Conservation Fund, which has preserved treasured New Jersey landscapes such as the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge, Loantaka Brook Reservation, and the Highlands forests. She has also led on major flood mitigation projects like the Peckman River Army Corps initiative and improvements under the Water Resources Development Act, strengthening North Jersey’s defenses against extreme weather. In addition, she secured funding to replace lead service lines, clean up PFAS contamination in Hopatcong, and upgrade water mains in Stanhope—delivering cleaner water and healthier communities across the state.
