Pascrell Raises New Questions of Trump Betrayal of Kurds
PATERSON, NJ – U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) today reacted further to Donald Trump’s betrayal of the Kurdish people in Northern Syria, amid reports that Trump may have shared intelligence information on Kurdish locations in Syria with the Turkish government. Combined with Trump’s business interests in Istanbul, his incoherent press statements defending his betrayal, and the administration’s stunning decision to vote alongside Russia at the United Nations yesterday to veto a condemnation of Turkey’s violent assaults on the Kurds, Rep. Pascrell is demanding answers to explain Trump’s acts.
“The Trump administration’s betrayal of the Kurdish people is one of the darkest days of American diplomatic leadership. It could lead to countless deaths and renders America’s international credibility worthless, but it may somehow get worse,” said Rep. Pascrell. “Given Trump’s continued business interests in Turkey, the sudden savagery of his betrayal of those who stood shoulder to shoulder with our soldiers on the battlefield, and Trump’s propensity for inserting his personal interests in conversations with world leaders, we should be asking if there is something more sinister here. Were Trump’s personal business interests raised during his talks with President Erdoğan? This stinks to high heaven.
“After the events of the last few days, Congress must dig deeper into Trump’s treachery in Northern Syria. If the answers are as dire as I fear, we must include them in our impeachment inquiry. Today we have a compromised chief executive who will sell out America and any person or nation if it lines his pockets. Unfortunately, we have not yet reached the bottom of our national tragedy.”
