Senate President Scutari to Hold News Conference on E-Bike Safety

SCOTCH PLAINS – Senate President Nick Scutari will hold a news conference in Scotch Plains on Wednesday to announce a legislative initiative to improve the safe use of electric bikes in New Jersey.

The dramatic increase in the use of e-bikes coupled with their higher speeds requires new safety standards, Senator Scutari said. His proposal will update the regulation, licensing, classification and training requirements for e-bikes.

The action comes in the wake of numerous accidents involving electric bikes. Just this week, two e-bike operators were killed in separate accidents in Scotch Plains and Orange. Numerous other accidents have occurred in the state, including one in Montvale this past week.

Joining Senator Scutari at the news conference will be Scotch Plains Mayor Joshua G. Losardo, Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel and other public officials.

The news conference will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 1, on the Scotch Plains Town Hall Steps, 430 Park Ave, Scotch Plains.
