Singer Bill Urging Federal CBD Daily Dose Guidelines Passes Committee

Senator Bob Singer’s legislation urging the federal government to establish a safe daily level of CBD consumption advanced in the Senate Health Committee.

“Cannabinol is being touted as a wonder supplement that can help alleviate insomnia, chronic pain, anxiety, and even seizures,” said Singer (R-30). “That being said, how much CBD oil is too much? I urge the President and U.S. Congress to create clear guidelines for the safety and well-being of residents in New Jersey and across the country.”

Senator Singer’s bipartisan resolution, SR-163, requests that the President and Congress of the United States establish a safe daily recommendation of consumption of cannabidiol.

Cannabidiol, also known as CBD, is a chemical that is prevalent in marijuana and hemp. Cannabidiol, unlike tetrahydrocannabidiol (THC), does not cause a person to feel “high.”

Currently, the federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) states that food additives or dietary supplements that contain cannabidiol are illegal. Despite that, more than 1,500 products containing cannabidiol are on the market without clear guidance from the FDA to regulate the products and ensure consumer safety.

The lack of a transparent FDA policy and the patchwork regulation of the substance by the states creates a complex legal framework for companies selling cannabidiol products. Companies that sell CBD goods find it difficult to conduct sales across state lines because banks and insurance companies are hesitant to service the industry, due to a lack of direction from the FDA.

“The lack of sensible regulations for cannabinol is not just a medical concern, it’s a key interstate commerce issue,” added Singer. “Rather than leave New Jersey business owners in the dark, let’s enact practical protocols to boost trade and opportunity in this growing industry.”
