Super Foodtown Joins Other Retailers in NJ that Accept SNAP Online Orders

(TRENTON)Starting this week, New Jerseyans enrolled in the state’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will be able to use their benefits to order groceries online from five Super Foodtown grocery stores in Monmouth County.

“We are thrilled to provide New Jersey families enrolled in SNAP with more options to grocery shop online,” said Acting Human Services Commissioner Sarah Adelman. “People prefer to shop online for a variety of reasons. Individuals who receive SNAP benefits should enjoy the same convenience of grocery shopping online, and now they have more stores to choose from.”

“We are excited to see the list of supermarkets providing online access to SNAP families expand.  By adding more stores, NJ is increasing access to healthy foods for families that find it easier to shop online,” said Deputy Commissioner Elisa Neira.

NJ SNAP recipients will be able to use their benefits card to order groceries from Super Foodtown stores in Port Monmouth, Red Bank, Ocean, Atlantic Highlands and Sea Girt. Online shopping is also available through Amazon and participating Walmarts, ShopRites, The Fresh Grocers and ALDIs using Instacart.

NJ SNAP currently serves about 850,000 New Jerseyans in approximately 439,000 households, with the monthly SNAP benefit based on household size and income.

Recipients will be able to use their Families First Electronic Benefits Transfer card to purchase eligible groceries from the participating retailers. Under federal rules, SNAP benefits cannot be used to pay for delivery fees.

“This helps make shopping for groceries more convenient for those who may have difficulty getting to the grocery store, and gives families in these communities more options as to where to shop for food,” said Human Services Assistant Commissioner Natasha Johnson, who directs the Division of Family Development that oversees NJ SNAP.
