TRUMP: Gateway Is “Dead”

Jack missed the memo from his boss — this isn’t a negotiation

BLOOMFIELD — Today, Donald Trump doubled down on attacking the Gateway Tunnel Project, one of the largest and most important investments in public transit in the country, saying it is “dead” and that he is “cutting the project.” This comes after Trump declared the project was “terminated” from the Oval Office Wednesday. Ready to defend this vital infrastructure project, Mikie rallied with local leaders, commuters, and labor representatives, to call out Trump’s unconstitutional attack. Mikie made it clear that as governor she will use every tool at her disposal, including taking the administration to court, to claw back these critical funds.

Jack is clearly out of his depth here and failing to understand the fundamentals on Gateway: the project will bring $42.8 billion in economic activity and nearly 100,000 good-paying jobs to the region.

“Yesterday, we told Donald Trump that New Jersey will not take this assault on our state’s economy and commuters without a fight. As governor, I will sue the Trump administration  to claw back this critical funding and deliver affordable, reliable public transit. Meanwhile, Jack has displayed a pathetic refusal to stand up to Trump — even saying his Attorney General wouldn’t ever be taking this White House to court. Our state deserves a leader who won’t cower when our economy is under attack and crucial resources are ripped away from our state,” said Mikie Sherrill.

Meanwhile, where is Jack? Making up stories about pretend negotiations to justify Trump’s attack on infrastructure critical to New Jersey’s economy.

When given the chance to respond, Jack refused to commit to fighting for Gateway, peddled more fictitious stories about the project, and failed to provide any plan for how he would fight this. Take a look for yourself:

Reporter: “So as governor, if Governor, will you fight this? And how will you fight this?”

Jack: “… I think what the President is doing right now is playing hardball negotiations …”
